It is the intent of the Brillion Public School District that every student in the district who has a primary language other than English and who is identified as limited English proficient (LEP) be provided with the opportunity to participate in an English Learner (EL) program. The EL program strives to enable limited English proficient students to become competent in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language in an academic setting and be able to participate fully in society. English learner services are provided by the District's certified EL teacher and EL staff. For more information regarding the EL Program, please contact Kendilyn Brockman in the Student Services office at
(920) 756-2166.
English Learners in grades 4K through 12th receive English instruction with content-based ESL language support, universal instruction, classroom support, co-teaching, and resource room review. Instruction is based on assuring alignment between the WIDA standards and the Wisconsin Academic Standards.
EL Program Vision, Mission and Values:
The vision of the EL program at Brillion Public Schools is to provide high-quality language instruction as well as social, emotional, and cultural support that allows students to attain English language proficiency and achieve academic success. This is the collective responsibility of all staff through culturally responsive practices that maintain and value cultural identity.
We believe all students:
have the right to equitable access to culturally relevant teaching and learning
are language learners and all teachers are language teachers
deserve to attend schools where language diversity and diverse cultural backgrounds are respected
benefit from a shared partnership between home, school, and community
bring diverse experiences that foster an exchange of cultural knowledge
will be better prepared to thrive in a global community by acquiring English and one, or more, additional languages
benefit from inclusive participation both in and out of the classroom
